M\u00e1xima MC kan deze behandeling aan pati\u00ebnten geven. Als de behandeling met immunotherapie aanslaat, kan de ziekte soms langdurig onder controle worden gehouden.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Als <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmc.nl\/oncologie\/aandoening-en-behandeling\/nierkanker\/\">nierkanker<\/a> is uitgezaaid, wordt op basis van het type nierkanker en de uitgebreidheid van de tumor, bekeken welke behandelmogelijkheden er zijn. Deze mogelijkheden worden besproken in het multidisciplinair overleg (MDO). Hierbij zijn alle zorgverleners die met nierkanker te maken hebben vertegenwoordigd. E\u00e9n van de behandelopties is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmc.nl\/oncologie\/aandoening-en-behandeling\/immuuntherapie\/\">immunotherapie<\/a>; een behandeling met medicijnen die het eigen afweersysteem versterkt om kankercellen te herkennen en vernietigen. M\u00e1xima MC is gespecialiseerd in de behandeling met immunotherapie.<\/p>\n<h3>Immunotherapie als eerste behandeloptie<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cEen nieuwe ontwikkeling is dat we immunotherapie als eerste behandeloptie kunnen inzetten bij uitgezaaide nierkanker, in plaats van de huidige behandeling met tabletten\u201d, vertelt internist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmc.nl\/specialisten\/dercksen-dr-m-w\/\">Wouter Dercksen<\/a>. \u201cHet gaat dan om mensen met een vorm van uitgezaaide nierkanker waarbij we verwachten dat deze snel ernstiger zal worden.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Nierkanker onder controle houden<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cAls de immunotherapie aanslaat, kan het langdurig resultaat opleveren voor de pati\u00ebnt. Door deze behandeling is het eigen afweersysteem soms weer in staat om kankercellen te herkennen en te vernietigen, waardoor de ziekte soms langdurig onder controle kan worden gehouden. Zelfs is het in bepaalde gevallen &#8211; bij gunstig resultaat &#8211; mogelijk om de behandeling te stoppen.
