Met behulp van een kleine hoeveelheid radioactieve stof wordt verandering in de stofwisseling van cellen in beeld gebracht. Soms zijn tumoren of uitzaaiingen niet te zien op een <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmc.nl\/radiologie-nucleaire\/aandoening-en-behandeling\/ct-scan\/\">CT-scan<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmc.nl\/radiologie-nucleaire\/aandoening-en-behandeling\/mri-onderzoek\/\">MRI-onderzoek<\/a>, maar wijzen andere testen wel op kanker. In zo\u2019n geval kan een PET-scan duidelijkheid geven.
